Close for the night. Keep your business in view.

A storefront should work for your business even after the lights go down. The Alutech Magnum Security Grille is a retractable aluminum barrier that helps restrict access while preserving visibility through its perforated curtain. DR Impact Co is an Alutech dealer and approved installer, helping South Florida business owners plan security for retail entrances, restaurant service areas, outdoor bars and kiosks.

The best starting question: do you need to secure an opening, manage patio weather, or protect against storms? Those are different goals. This guide helps you choose the right conversation before requesting a quote.

Where could a security grille help your business?

Think about the area you want to close and the activity that must continue around it. A retail entrance, a bar counter and a shared food hall each have different access needs. These are planning applications, subject to a site review and the selected assembly.

01 / Storefronts

Keep displays visible after closing

For boutiques, shops and retail suites, a grille can create a defined closing boundary while customers can still see into the display area. Plan its location around the glass, signage, door swings and staff entry route. Ask whether your priority is protecting the glass itself or restricting access behind it.

02 / Restaurants

Separate service areas from shared space

A restaurant may close its counter while a lobby, hotel corridor or neighboring venue remains open. Review pickup counters, cashier stations and beverage areas individually. Coordinate the grille with your closing routine, cleaning access and the building manager’s requirements.

03 / Outdoor bars

Plan a clear after-hours boundary

For a pool bar or covered outdoor serving area, discuss which openings need to close and where the housing can fit. Account for lighting, televisions, shelves and countertop equipment. Exposed coastal locations require particular attention to mounting conditions and maintenance. A perforated grille is not a rain enclosure.

04 / Kiosks & concessions

Design around the serving opening

For kiosks, concession stands and food-hall counters, identify each opening customers use. Measure returns and adjacent openings separately. Confirm whether existing framing can support an assembly and whether multiple units need a coordinated operating plan.

What makes the Magnum worth considering?

Alutech lists manual and motorized operation, interior or exterior mounting relative to glass, multiple perforation choices and optional end retention. Its bottom-bar mortise lock engages the side rails. The curtain retracts into an upper housing. See Alutech’s product details.

For an owner, the value is in how the installation fits daily operations. Consider who opens first, who closes last, where keys or controls will be kept and how staff will be trained. A convenient system still needs a consistent closing procedure. Treat the grille as one part of your security plan alongside appropriate locks, lighting, alarms and inventory practices; no physical barrier guarantees that a break-in cannot occur.

Sizes, finishes and operating choices

Product detail What to discuss
Published size limits Alutech lists a maximum width of 24 ft and maximum height of 20 ft. These are separate published limits, not confirmation that every 24 × 20 ft assembly is available.
Curtain Single-wall extruded aluminum with perforation options.
Operation Manual, motorized and remote-control options; confirm the appropriate operator for your opening.
Finish palette White, cream/ivory, light beige, bronze, gray, silver and custom colors are listed. Confirm availability and physical samples.

Bring a photograph of your storefront and a sample of the trim or signage color. Decide whether you want the assembly to blend into the façade or form a deliberate accent. Review the housing and rails as well as the curtain; the whole installation should fit the business’s appearance.

Plan mounting and power before ordering

Alutech’s architectural specifications call for field measurements, suitable structural attachment and project-specific shop drawings. They describe mounting to the building structure rather than window frames, and allowing clearance for door hardware. For motorized assemblies, discuss electrical coordination and a suitable manual-override option for loss of power. Final details must match the selected system and approved installation instructions. Read the manufacturer’s architectural specifications (PDF).

Ask the installer to show the proposed housing position on your opening photograph. Check signs, soffits, sprinklers, lighting and access panels before fabrication. Arrange landlord or property-manager review early when exterior alterations require their approval.

Security grille, solid shutter or patio screen?

Your main goal Product to explore
Restrict access while retaining visibility Perforated commercial security grille, with the opening and security requirements reviewed.
Close off the view into an opening A solid roll shutter configuration. Discuss security and any separate storm-protection requirement.
Reduce bugs or sunlight on a dining patio Motorized insect or solar screens, chosen for the intended use.
Create a more sheltered patio opening Discuss a clear-vinyl enclosure and its operating limits. Mesh and perforated grilles do not seal out rain.
Protect an opening during a hurricane A verified hurricane-protection system matched to the opening, installation and applicable approval.
Security and hurricane ratings are different. Do not assume a security grille is impact-rated because another product uses the Magnum name. Ask for the current approval covering the exact curtain, dimensions, pressure requirements, anchors and installation. Required exits and emergency access also need project-specific review before a commercial opening is enclosed.

How much does a commercial security grille cost?

A useful estimate needs more than a square-foot number. DR Impact Co prepares a project quote after reviewing the openings and installation scope. The same visible opening can involve different costs depending on its supporting structure, access and controls.

  • Opening size and quantity: list width first, then height, for each opening.
  • Mounting conditions: provide photographs of the head, both sides and the area around the opening.
  • Operation: compare manual access with motorized convenience and any power or override requirements.
  • Appearance: identify your preferred finish and perforation style.
  • Site work: disclose existing shutters, obstructions, elevated access and electrical needs.
  • Business logistics: explain operating hours, landlord requirements and when work can occur.

For example, write “Opening A: 12 ft wide × 8 ft high” and “Opening B: 6 ft wide × 4 ft high.” These are preliminary opening measurements, not fabrication sizes. Leave final sizing and mounting allowances to the installer.

Planning for South Florida businesses

DR Impact Co welcomes commercial security-grille inquiries from Oakland Park, Fort Lauderdale, Pompano Beach and surrounding South Florida communities. Share the property address so our team can confirm project coverage and site requirements. A shopping-center storefront and a beachfront bar may need very different installation plans even when their openings are similar in size.

For coastal properties, ask for a cleaning schedule appropriate to the exposure. Follow the manufacturer’s care instructions, keep guides clear of debris and arrange service if movement becomes uneven or unusual noise develops. Do not force a jammed curtain. Staff should know the approved operating procedure and keep people and equipment clear while the assembly moves.

Frequently asked questions

Can customers still see through a closed security grille?

A perforated curtain preserves some visibility. The view depends on the selected pattern, lighting and viewing angle. Review an actual sample before choosing your configuration.

Can I use a grille for a restaurant or outdoor bar?

It may suit a serving opening or closing boundary after a site review. Tell us whether the priority is access control, rain shelter, insect control or storm protection so we can discuss the appropriate product.

Can it fit an existing storefront?

A retrofit requires verification of structural attachment, clearances and access. Send photographs and preliminary measurements; do not assume an existing window frame can support the installation.

What happens to a motorized grille during a power outage?

Ask which manual-override arrangement is available for the selected operator and how staff will access it. Confirm the procedure before ordering rather than assuming every motor has the same backup capability.

Will this qualify as hurricane protection?

Only if the exact assembly and installation are verified for that purpose. A product-family name or security description alone does not establish an impact rating for your opening.

What should I send for a quote?

Send your business location, opening photographs, width × height for each opening, the number of units, preferred operation and your main goal. Include landlord requirements and any existing equipment that affects access.
